Arna sighed. Her long green hair brushed alongside her fingerless hand as she palmed the piece of meat around her plate. The current caught it and sent it fluttering across the cavernous hall like a white piece of fish-confetti.

She flipped her tail impatiently.

“How was your champion, my queen?” Alazar’s long tusks and intense devotion left many of Her subjects with nothing but dreams of a passionate moment.

I was aiming for something unsettling and eerie. As much as I love the sea (seriously, I can stare at an aquarium or splash in the waves for ages!) I know it has a whole other, very dangerous, side. A side that can appear with little to no warning. Perhaps that’s why I love it so much! It’s definitely why this sea-inspired flash fiction has the cannibalistic twist at the end.
